Glossary

a
AI (Artificial Intelligence)

The simulation of human intelligence in machines that can learn, reason, and adapt to new information or situations.

API (Application Programming Interface)

A set of rules that allows different software systems to communicate and share data with each other.

Assets

Characters, scripts, media, and other creative resources created within a Workspace. Assets are shared with all collaborators in that Workspace and can be shared via the Public Library.

Avatar

A digital, animated character that represents a person or brand in virtual environments, training, or customer interactions.

AWS (Amazon Web Services) (Amazon)

A leading cloud computing platform that provides scalable infrastructure, storage, AI services, and developer tools.

b
Body Animation

The movement and gestures of a digital avatar that bring it to life and create realistic interactions.

c
ChatGPT (OpenAI)

A conversational AI model developed by OpenAI that generates human-like text responses based on prompts.

d
Digital Character

A computer-generated persona, often stylized or branded, designed for storytelling, training, or interactive experiences.

Digital Human

A highly realistic, AI-powered avatar designed to look, move, and respond like a real person.

Digital Twin

A virtual representation of a real-world person, process, or system that mirrors its behaviors and characteristics for training, analysis, or simulation.

Durable Skills

Essential human skills such as communication, leadership, and empathy that remain valuable across industries and roles.

e
Embodied AI

Artificial intelligence presented in a digital body (such as an avatar) capable of speech, movement, and expression.

f
Facial Animation

Technology that captures or generates expressions to give avatars lifelike emotional responses.

Feedback Loop

A system where performance data or user responses are collected and used to improve future interactions or training.

g
Gemini (Google DeepMind)

Google DeepMind’s family of large language models (LLMs) designed for advanced reasoning, problem-solving, and multimodal AI tasks.

Generative AI

A type of AI that can create new content, such as text, images, video, or speech, based on prompts.

Groq

A hardware company specializing in ultra-fast AI inference processors designed for speed and scalability.

l
L&D (Learning and Development)

The organizational function that manages employee training, skill development, and professional growth.

Latency

The time it takes for a system to respond to a user’s action. In the context of avatars and interactive experiences, it’s the delay between input (like speech, text, or motion) and the avatar’s real-time response.

Latency depends on many factors, including project type, data services, and character rendering. Lower latency means smoother, more natural interactions—critical for training, role-play, and customer experiences that feel human.

LLM (Large Language Model)

An advanced AI model trained on massive text datasets to understand, process, and generate human-like language.

m
Machine Learning (ML)

A branch of AI where algorithms improve their performance over time by learning from data.

MetaHumans (Epic Games)

Ultra-realistic, customizable digital characters created with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, widely used in film, games, and interactive experiences.

n
Natural Language Processing (NLP)

The field of AI that enables computers to understand, interpret, and respond to human language.

No-Code

Software that allows users to build and customize applications or experiences without writing code.

o
Organization

Your company or team’s home base in Rapport. It’s where you manage subscriptions, billing, and user access. An Organization can host multiple Workspaces and allows team-wide collaboration based on permissions.

p
Personalization

Customizing content, training, or customer interactions to match individual preferences, roles, or behaviors.

Projects

Core interactive experiences built in Rapport. Projects live inside Workspaces and combine character design, AI settings, templates, and deployment methods.

Prompt

The instruction or input provided to an AI system to generate a specific output.

Prompt Engineering

The practice of designing and refining prompts to achieve better, more accurate AI responses.

Push-to-Talk (PTT)

This allows users to initiate voice transmission by pressing a designated button or key, instead of continuously broadcasting audio. The user is required to activate the microphone only when they want to speak, mimicking the functionality of a walkie-talkie or two-way radio. This approach helps reduce background noise and conserve bandwidth, making it particularly useful in situations where multiple users share a communication channel. Push-to-talk is commonly employed in various contexts, including professional settings, online gaming, and mobile applications, enabling efficient and controlled voice communication among individuals or groups.

r
Rapport Session Runners

Cloud-based (or on-premise) servers that execute live user sessions and handle real-time character interactions.

Rapport Studio

A web-based interface where users create, configure, and design interactive projects, characters, and experiences.

Ready Player Me (Wolf3D)

A cross-platform avatar creator that lets users design a customizable 3D character and use it in thousands of games, apps, and virtual experiences.

Real-Time Rendering

Technology that generates visuals instantly, enabling avatars and virtual environments to respond live.

Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)

A powerful tool that equips large language models (LLMs) with the ability to access real-world data for more informed responses.

Role-Play Simulation

A training method where learners practice conversations and scenarios with avatars in a safe, controlled environment.

s
Sales Training

The process of teaching sales teams the skills, knowledge, and techniques needed to engage customers and close deals.

Scenario Builder

A tool for creating customized situations and conversations to train employees or simulate customer interactions.

Speech-to-Text (STT)

Technology that converts spoken language into written text for transcription or real-time applications.

t
